Below is a report from Louise Ferguson on our Working Assessment (April 2018) - the Results can be accessed here and via the link within the report
On Sunday 15th April 2018 the LRCGB held their first working assessment since the Club, led by Gael Stenton, appealed to the Kennel Club to stay within the Gundog Group (2012). As you may know as a result of this campaign, in 2014 the Lagotto Romagnolo was placed in the Minority Breed Spaniel group.
We have been holding regular training sessions over the past 18 months leading up to this very exciting day. We were lucky enough to have Mick Cleverley (Corunna Gundogs) and Chris Page (Micklemess Clumber Spaniels) judge for us. Chris has been hugely supportive of our breed and was instrumental in our appeal to the KC as well as giving us his time and sharing his expertise during our training process.Mr and Mrs Dawson very generously allowed us to use their land for this event for which we are hugely grateful. The Results are available here. Many congratulations to our winners. Big thanks also to all those who took part and to those who helped organise the event, as well as those who helped and supported us on the day.Chris and Mick were extremely complimentary about the way our dogs worked. Six months on from when Chris last saw us, he noticed a big improvement and complimented us on the obvious efforts that we have put into our training. Mick, who had never seen a Lagotto before the day of our Assessment, was impressed with the natural working ability and drive shown by the breed. He has kindly offered to judge for us again and has offered to come and train us in the near future. An enormous thank you to our judges for their direction, encouragement and enthusiasm; we all went away feeling positive and inspired to continue with the hard work.We are planning a puppy and beginners day in Hampshire in June so please do come and have a go. We plan to have another Working Assessment in the Autumn, which we will open up to include the other minority breed spaniels. Please keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for details of these events and any other training dates.Louise Ferguson
