The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme was set up in 1992 to help to promote responsible dog ownership. Now well established, it is the largest dog training programme in the UK.
The Scheme is open to all dogs (not just pedigrees or KC registered dogs). There are four levels to progress through from Puppy Foundation, to Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, each level needing to be passed before progressing to the next. The Good Citizen Scheme incorporates many domestic obedience exercises, and exercises vital for a well behaved dog in the community. Tests are non competitive in nature, with the emphasis being placed on the standard of achievement of each individual dog.
