Hi All,I took Charlie to the beach yesterday and let him off lead to play, he jumped in the sea and swam out 20 meters and swam around for a good 20 minutes before he came in,I was getting a little worried he might need to be rescued when other beach walkers kept asking how I got my dog to swim like that,is this normal,he loved the swim but how long can they stay out for 'cos there was no way he was coming in till he was ready.
p.s.it's high 30's here

Hi Marianne (and Charlie!)

That sounds just like one of my lagotto's, she will swim and swim as long as she likes without a break.

I've seen her swim constantly for a good twenty minutes in the past as well, so don't be too concerned.

Although I know what you mean as it can be a little scary sometimes when they are far out, but in the 6 years we've had her we've never had a problem - they are amazing swimmers!

Hi Richard and Roma,
Yes it was a bit of a worry to see a little brown head bobbing around so far out to sea but he also splashes the water with his front paws as if he's looking for something and even though he is only 8 months I was amazed at how strong a swimmer he is,though I do think we need to work on his recall or I could just take a packed lunch ,nice to know he's not alone ,
Cheers Marianne and Charlie

Hi Kay and Beatie,
I thought the fish suited him with his talent for swimming but I will put a photo of him up when I get a nice one, he is a very handsome boy and is becoming a very loving one after his very shaky start into domestic life, I can now grate food and use the food processor and I even vacuumed yesterday without him going nuts , little steps but we're getting there, thanks to some very good advice
cheers Marianne and Charlie

We'll look forward to seeing the picture, but more so seeing you both in the flesh at future Lagotto events.
Congratulations with your progress, it is so rewarding isn't it? Beatie just gave me the large lump of bird cake which had fallen from the tree, with only the slight "Are you really sure I can't eat it" hesitation.
Beatie likes swimming but is nowhere near the Charlie league. I do hope you make it to the water day.
