I must look at it from his point of view. He knows that when either my wife or I take him out in the car (on 8 out 10 times) we will reach a park within 5-10 mins. He knows that he is going to get a great walk, for at least an hour maybe two. Where we take him he can run free, off lead, play hide and seek, come calls for treats and so on. We have no problems with call back and hide and seek games makes him keen to keep an eye on where we are.

After the walk he is, understandably, most docile and completely quiet. So I suspect we are the authors of our own misfortune.

If we are going on a longer trip, he seems to know that the route is not going to his park and stops the yelping after about 5-10 mins.

Note the time line! It is the first 5-10 mins yelping we want to discourage.

Mark you must go with what you feel is the best and works for you and I'm going to try your hide and seek method with Charlie to work on his "come" making it fun is aways a good thing,thanks

I found that his yodelling was getting louder and louder that i needed to take serious action. So I now give him a chew toy, laced with marmite and that keeps him busy
