We have just brought home our puppy - Zucca - from the Emmroche litter. She bites too and like to play 'kill' trouser legs.

I have told the children to stand with legs together and arms crossed until she stops then to praise and stroke.
I do the same and now see seems to sit more quickly for me, so I think it might be working.

The downside is that she does sometimes ghet her teeth through the trousers - so then we are back to 'ouch'

Lottie is still play biting even though we make it clear we dont like it , she has also started growling and barking when she is really excited. Its a bit unsettling and I hope she will grow out of it.Otherwise all well still weeing in the house though on occasions.

The crate is essential. Use it often, but not as a punishment. Use it to let the puppy know it is their space, with you in the room. Once they see you walking in and out of the room, they will become more content.

For a pup; you might want to cover the top, and sides, of the crate to make it darker.

RE: biting

They can't talk, so they explore the world through their nose and their mouth. Saying "ouch" and immediately pushing them away, and then ignoring them (do not look at them, or acknowledge them in any way). will allow you to allow them back.

Hi to all new puppy owners - hope things are settling down for you. I have Archie and he's now 16 months old and I can really sympathise with you all with new puppies. The play biting can be a bit much but you will get through it and they will stop doing it ... so hang in there. I didn't crate train Archie and am very proud of his toilet training .. he just 'got it' and we've had little to no accidents in the house. He responds very well to 'come' command when outside and everyday he gets more mature and settled ... hang in there everyone ... you'll turn the corner before you know it and you'll miss their play-fighting.
Regards
Lynne

Thanks Lynne. The play biting has almost stopped now lottie is 6 months old and toileting is good we have the occasional wee in house but its always near the door and its usually my fault for forgetting to let her out !we are away on holiday so I hope lottie is on her best behaviour for her foster family . Its the first time we have left her for more than a couple of days and I can't wait to get back to see her!
